Happy New Year
sold
"Cat" 14"x14" oil on linen.
I haven’t posted anything on my blog for a while. I changed my job 3 months ago and this transition is seriously cutting into my painting time. I just hope that day comes when I can pursue my dream of being a full time artist instead of switching back and forth between the steady income and my passion for painting, but I’m not ready yet to take this step.
Finally, I’ve finished a few paintings that I had started at the end of a summer. Here is the first one and I’m planning to post the rest of them here next week.
Happy New Year, everyone, and thank you for following my work!

"Red Hook No.2" - 12x18 - Oil on linen.
.
I painted and sold this painting a few years ago, but I would like to introduce this unique place before posting next group of my paintings with Red Hook Brooklyn NY. Located in the southwestern corner of the New York City borough of Brooklyn , Red Hook has been an industrial area for over 200 years, full of warehouses, old factories, terminals and landmarks. Lately, there's so much growth and change going on in here - IKEA, the upscale Fairway Market, art gallery, waterfront landmarks, cruise terminal attract many people during the day. When I come here, I like to sit with a cup of coffee at Fairway’s waterfront cafe breathing in the salt-water air enjoying the beautiful views of New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty (the only frontal view in NYC) and Manhattan skyline, and watching all the boat traffic with occasional cruise ships go past. Then I walk the cobblestone streets taking pictures of the Civil War-era warehouses. The place has a character and uniqueness and a big source of inspiration for a new painting.

Old signs have never been a subject for my paintings. But one day I was looking to buy a bottle of wine for a dinner and came across the liquor store on 7 Ave in Greenwich Village. When I came out from the store this sign caught my attention and I thought it could make an interesting painting.

Oil on linen
The weather is so hot here in New York that it's hard to focus on painting but stay on the beach. Anyway I managed to finish some new paintings. Three of them are in a large format and five are 8x10. I decided to experiment a little and use hardboard panel at this time. It was a quite a different experience, but I like the results and I’m planning to continue to use hardboards for smaller paintings. I'll put up all five 8x10 paintings covering a variety of New York scenes on eBay starting Monday at 9pm est.

This is my third and larger painting of this building and it was both challenge and pleasure to paint it. I will probably paint its roof top in the future.

This place is one of my favorite spot to paint. Delmonico has an historic aura around it . It was one of the first restaurants in the United States and considered to be one of the first American fine dining establishments (read more). Located on 56 Beaver street . It’s one of the most interesting places of Wall Street. I’ve used it as a scene in one of my old New York series (picture below). In this new piece I was trying to concentrate not only on details but atmosphere also. I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the result. This painting represents one of my best work to date.

This is my second painting of famous NYC landmark- Vesuvio Bakery, located at 160 Prince Street in SOHO. The charming little bakery has long history, around 90 years in business, and changed the owners recently, but thankfully its unique facade is kept intact. The green shade is so striking that every time I see it during my trips to SOHO I want to paint it again and again.

I’ve received many requests for small size paintings from people who like my work but can’t afford large pieces. Last month was a perfect time to give this idea a try since I was busy with my job and didn’t want to start anything time consuming. Choosing between eBay's popular 6x6 and anything larger I decided to go with 8x10 oil on linen. I‘ve finished nine paintings. The first of these will show up on eBay on Wednesday February 24 at starting price of $100.

This is Toad Hall bar on 57 Grand street in Soho. I discovered it during one of my regular trips to Soho last fall. The place is kind of dirty beauty: friendly and cozy and it has pool table in the back. I immediately came up with some fresh idea for my next paintings.
I started two compositions of this bar in October, but put them aside due commissioned work I mentioned below. They are finished now and I've enjoyed working on these pieces.

--
It’s my largest commissioned painting to date that I’d been working for last couple of months. McSorley's Old Ale House is the oldest and unique ale house in NYC. Women were not allowed into this establishment until 1970.
I've enjoyed working on this large piece and happy with how the painting turned out but still nervous enough about how it will be received by the buyer. Yesterday I got an email from the client and he is very pleased with the painting. While working on this painting, I was so curios about interior of the bar, that we went there with my husband one day and had to wait in line just to get in. I managed to take a good pictures despite the crowdedness and one day I’m planning to do the painting with interior of this amazing place.
